Head of Department: Mrs Sally Silcock
Second in Science: Mr Scott Tucker
By working closely with our primary providers we have designed our KS3 curriculum to be aspiring, exciting and challenging during their transition to senior school. The science incorporates Physics, Chemistry and Biology with an emphasis on working scientifically within these subjects. This provides a solid foundation of skills and learning for our learners to commence their GCSE studies in Year 9.
Abbeyfield Science Department is an exciting and innovative place for pupils to engage in Science and be inspired to achieve in the subject. We aim to guide our pupils to learn about Science though real life interactions from attending gliding trips, animal handling, dissections or visiting the large hadron collider in Switzerland and much more as a way of making the different aspects of science appealing to all.
Pupils will either follow the Combined Science or the Separate Science routes. The Double Award is the AQA GCSE Combined Science: Trilogy specification. Triple Award Science pupils will study AQA GCSE Biology (8461), AQA GCSE Chemistry (8462) and AQA GCSE Physics (8463) as three separate GCSE’s. http://www.aqa.org.uk/subjects/science/gcse
