Head Of Department: Mr Baker
The PE Department at Abbeyfield School comprises a highly dedicated and experienced staff. Our focus is ensuring that all Abbeyfield students have an enjoyable, challenging and high-quality experience of PE.
The curriculum through Key Stages 3 and 4 is progressive and designed to allow all students to develop their physical abilities and understanding of performance. All students have PE allocated on their timetable and all will participate in a range of activities throughout their time at Abbeyfield.
For those students with an interest in studying PE further, we offer GCSE PE and BTEC Sport at Key Stage 4. The pathway for further study into the Sixth Form give students the opportunity of studying BTEC L3 Sport Subsidiary Diploma. These courses provide students with opportunities to study topics around sport, health and fitness, as well as further developing their physical abilities.
Students can also access a number of leadership opportunities through the PE Department:
- • Students often have the opportunity to take on sports leadership roles by running festivals and sporting events for our feeder primary schools and younger students.
- •We also have a very busy Sports Ambassadors programme running in which students take an active lead in shaping many of the activities, events and direction of PE and sport at Abbeyfield.
Extra-curricular opportunities through Abbeyfield PE Department play a huge part in what we do. We run a full and extensive programme that encourages recreational participation as well as competing through District, County and National School Games Competitions.
Each year our sporting calendar culminates in our Sports Teams’ Celebration Evening in July.
