Transition

Dear Parent/Carers,

At Abbeyfield School we run an extensive Primary Liaison Programme. The aims of the Primary Liaison Programme are:

  • To inform primary school pupils about the everyday expectations of a secondary school in a balanced and impartial way in order to help pupils make a smooth transition.
  • To build positive relationships between primary pupils/teachers and staff/students at Abbeyfield School.
  • To develop a better understanding of a secondary school approach to teaching and learning.

The Primary Liaison Programme will involve teaching staff from Abbeyfield School visiting primary schools in Chippenham, Calne and the surrounding area, throughout the year, delivering a wide variety of subjects to Year 4, 5 and 6 pupils. We offer the primary schools lessons in Maths, English, Science, Design Technology, Creative Arts, Languages, Music, PE and Enterprise. These popular sessions provide primary school pupils with a taste of secondary school lessons whilst also building strong relationships with staff here at Abbeyfield, prior to admission to the school.

In my role as the Transition Manager, I also visit pupils in the primary schools once they have been allocated a place here at Abbeyfield School. I meet regularly with the class teacher and pupil prior to admission, to discuss all aspects of the transition to secondary school.

If you have any questions regarding admission to Abbeyfield School, primary liaison or transition please do not hesitate to contact us.
