TeachMeet 2016 – Thurs 3rd Nov 2016

TeachMeet 2016 – Thurs 3rd Nov 2016

How can we support each other in this changing climate of assessment, exam specifications and transition? Come along and share ideas that have worked in your classroom (subject retention/smart feedback/use of tech to support learning), in your subject meetings (supporting transition, new specs or developing T&L in the dept.) or CPD sessions that you can share to support others in accessing this ‘Brave New World’!

You can choose a 3 or 5 minute slot or simply come along to get ideas and network too…

Year 7 Tutor Evening Guest Speaker: a message from Dr Kathy Weston

Dear Parent/Carers

As part of the new Year 7 Tutor evening, we have invited an outside guest speaker to deliver a great session for all parents about how to support your child’s transition to secondary school. The teenage years can be challenging for parents, carers, teachers as well as the students themselves, and Dr Kathy Weston has got some great tips about how we can try to meet those challenges and work together as strong and effective team!

More information can be found on the ‘Keystone Aspire’ website: and there is also a short promotional video on the school’s website from Kathy.

We have managed to put on two talks to ensure you have flexibility with meeting your child’s tutor and working around other family commitments too. There will be refreshments available in the school canteen so that you can have a coffee or tea while you wait for the talk to start.

Because the talk is for adults only, there will be popcorn, a film and teacher supervision in the Learning Centre so that your children can wait for you without getting bored!

If you could send the reply slip back to school with your child, or simply email with your chosen session time that would be great.

Looking forward to seeing you on the 21st of September.

With best wishes

Open Evening – Thursday 6th October

81% A*- C in English and Maths

Abbeyfield School Open Evening – visit us and see why we are one of the highest performing schools in Wiltshire.

Come and find out how our belief in exceptional Teaching and Learning has led to record breaking outcomes and phenomenal progress for students this year at Abbeyfield School. This year’s GCSE results make us one of the highest performing schools in Wiltshire and we would welcome the opportunity to show you our caring and nurturing school which has the highest of expectations for all. Our belief in challenging and nurturing students at Key Stage 3 is a key factor in our school performing so well.

Students at Abbeyfield are incredibly successful. We want to share our aspirations to build great futures for all we have the privilege to teach.

“Big enough to make a difference … small enough to know each child.”

GCSE Results – Press Release

Pupils at Abbeyfield School are celebrating the best ever GCSE results in its history. These are phenomenal results and they have led to a combined outcome of 81% of all students achieving A*- C in English and Maths. Almost 1 out of every 3 students achieved A* or A in English and nearly 1 in 4 achieved A* or A in Maths.

Ian Tucker, Headteacher is delighted and says: “These are stunning results and they reflect the hard work of all the students, teachers and supportive parents. Our school is going from strength to strength and it was a privilege to be amongst so many happy students this morning. We hope to see many of them return to us in September as they join our highly successful Sixth Form. One of the best outcomes is that our students made such excellent progress in their time with Abbeyfield. They really responded well to excellent teaching and staff that believed in them.”

A Level Results – Press Release

The students at Abbeyfield School, Chippenham have posted some of the best A level and BTEC results ever. 100% of students entered for 3 or more A levels achieved A*-E with 42% of those students achieving A*-B grades. Almost one in four students achieved the highest grades of A*, A or Distinction* in their A level or BTEC results. A total of 48% of students who took BTEC qualifications achieved Distinction or Distinction* which emphasises the value we place at Abbeyfield on both the academic and vocational qualifications we offer. In all, 79% of students achieved A*- C or Merit across the A level and BTEC range; a result to be truly proud of.

Headteacher, Ian Tucker says: “For the past two years, the development of the Sixth Form has been high on the list of School Improvement Priorities for the school. We have demanded a great deal from students and staff in the pursuit of strong and competitive outcomes and they have gone above and beyond with their response. Sam Owen, our Head Boy, who achieved A* in History, an A in Business Studies and a B in Biology devised the strap line: “Enter to learn… Leave to achieve” within days of joining the Sixth Form. This group of students have taken that motto to heart and we are delighted by these results and wish all students the very best with their next steps.”

A tough race for Ethan and all who competed that day in the worst weather conditions.

Congratulations Ethan we look forward to hearing more
