Literacy and Numeracy
At Abbeyfield School we are passionate about improving student’s literacy skills right the way across the curriculum. Literacy generates the development of effective skills in communication. To be literate is to be able to listen, speak, read and write at a level necessary to function in education, at work and in society.
Literacy skills are vital for students to be able to succeed in the future and below is a ‘Parents Guide to Literacy at Abbeyfield School’ which outlines some ways in which you could continue to support literacy at home.

Numeracy is also a key skill in students’ learning. Abbeyfield School is committed to raising the standard of numeracy of all of its students; we want our students to be confident and capable in the use of numeracy to support their learning across all areas of the curriculum and to acquire the skills necessary to help achieve success in further education, employment and adult life.
We have attached a ‘Parents Guide to Supporting Numeracy’ which outlines ways that, as a parent, you could build your own confidence with numeracy and also ways to support your child.
